Prof. John Lau

Professor John Lau is an accomplished and experienced educator at London College of Fashion, UAL. He continues to modernise fashion education by merging the creative arts, heritage craft with new technologies and cultural sustainability. As the Dean of Academic Strategy, he leads the academic development and educational quality standards in the college.
Prof. John has professional experience in the fashion industry in design, production and styling. He was a womenswear designer specialising in tailoring in London, a fashion editor for magazines in New York City, and a production manager in Hong Kong, China. Returning to the UK in 2004, he has since been a sought-after business consultant supporting new fashion brands in their expansion to new markets, written a book on designing accessories and is a trusted commentator in the media.
Prof. John’s extensive experience in the fashion industry has been deployed in many subject areas in higher education from design, production to business. His current research is in cultural interpretation and sustainability and leads knowledge exchange projects in advanced digital fashion design and production across Europe. He teaches across postgraduate programmes, supervises PhDs and is a regular visiting professor at premier institutions in The Netherlands, Spain, Türkiye and Hong Kong, China.
